Dr. Zhang Xiuhui has over 30 years of experience in cardiovascular surgery. He has pursued advanced training and research at various institutions, including the Provincial Hospital, Beijing Fuwai Hospital, Cleveland Heart Center in the U.S., and the Berlin Heart Center in Germany.
He was the first in the region to perform surgeries for complex congenital heart diseases, such as double outlet right ventricle, transposition of the great arteries, and complete atrioventricular septal defects. He independently carried out the region's first emergency coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and off-pump CABG. Dr. Zhang was also the first in China to perform minimally invasive right thoracic small incision open-heart surgery and trans-thoracic minimally invasive closure for congenital heart diseases. Additionally, he pioneered the minimally invasive valve replacement (TAVR) surgery in the region and successfully performed the nation’s first zero-radiation ultrasound-guided interventional repair of a ruptured aortic sinus aneurysm.
Dr. Zhang specializes in minimally invasive congenital heart disease surgeries and complex congenital heart defect corrections. He also excels in coronary artery bypass surgery, valve repair, and valve replacement for conditions like rheumatic heart disease and valvular degeneration, which cause stenosis and regurgitation. He is proficient in radiofrequency ablation for atrial fibrillation and the treatment of major vascular diseases like aortic aneurysms and aortic dissections.
He has performed and supervised more than 9,000 major cardiac and vascular surgeries with a success rate of over 98%, and he once set a national record with 360 consecutive heart surgeries without any fatalities. Dr. Zhang has published over 20 academic papers in national and provincial journals and co-authored two books.
